Material Review: What should you know about applying EPDM Liquid Rubber the right way…?

A lot of work goes in maintaining a commercial roof so that it can work perfectly. But most building owners are unaware of how to keep their investment in good shape. A commercial building can have a roof which can come in many forms. If the roof is flat then chances are bright that the roof is made up of EPDM rubber. The best way to protect the rubber roof is by applying a rubber roof coating EPDM Liquid Rubber. EPDM rubber roof applications are not easy and require a number of essentials to be made.

Cleaning the Roof is Essential

The first step is to thoroughly clean the roof from dirt, debris and loose material. The flat roof membrane will accumulate dirt and mildew overtime. The roofing professionals that are hired to perform the cleaning work will use a specialized cleaning solution to clean the dirt and debris off of the roof surface. By working on one section of the roof at a time then moving towards the other, the professionals will be able to get the surface clean in no time at all.

Repairing All Damage Present on the Roof

Before applying rubber roof coating the professional have to repair the damage done to the roof. Any holes, punctures and tears should be repaired before applying the rubber roof coating. If you skip this step it will usually lead to issues down the line when the coating begins to wear off. Also if the roof has ponding issues, it should be addressed by applying a liberal amount of sealant to fill in the dip that this type of condition causes.

Rolling the Sealant on

Once all the prep work has been done it’s time to apply the EPDM rubber roof coating. The professionals will have to work on a section at one time getting a thick coating applied and then making their way getting backwards towards the other section. The last thing as a building owner needs to avoid is to try and apply this coating on their own. Trying to do a DIY EPDM rubber roof coating job will usually end in mistakes that can cause long-term roof problems for a commercial building owner.
